The Bowtie Takes a Bow

The Bowtie. A quick google search finds that the bowtie (or "Bro-Tie" as my friend BR calls it) originated first amongst 17th century Croatians to hold their shirts together and the look was soon adopted by French nobility. Now, the resurgence of the bowtie with urban hipsters can be partially attributed to it permeating into the wardrobe of many notable style icons- everyone from Beiber to Bryanboy has been found sporting this Old World accessory. You can't walk through Soho without seeing some cardigan kid with a bowtie and matching cognac wingtips. And while I applaud any sartorial throwback from yesteryear, wouldn't it be nice if 21st century men could also parallel old-school social decorum from the very gentlemen they attempt to emulate??

Exhibit A: Please ignore the blatant "Table Awesome" propaganda but I had to share this bow tie bonding I witnessed at Katrina's wedding last week. What is it about this fancy neck piece that channels machismo at its finest???

But wait! Dost my eyes deceive me?! A woman wearing a bowtie! In keeping with the on-trend androgynous look, this gal could singlehandedly threaten the existence of bro-tie bonding! And rightly so...her take on this sometimes-stuffy accessory actually seems fresh and unpredictable.

So boys, I beg of you. Feel free to find inspiration from days gone by. Wear that bowtie, don that bowler hat, and dust off those suede elbow patches. But being a true gentleman goes beyond your outfit. Be nice AND sport your classic threads and you won't just be awesome....you'll come out as a true winner (as in Table Winner. Ahem).
