Style Profile - Natalie Portman

I normally don't look to celebrities for sartorial inspiration. The Jessica Simpsons and Miley Cyruses of Hollywood don't often strike me as innovative or even stylistically beautiful, rather a banal representation of the overpaid/undernourished BFF to the stars -- The Stylist. So it bothers me when these said "style icons" are splashed across US weekly lauding their 'innate fashion sense' and 'groundbreaking use of color.' Puh-leeaze. Even more disturbing is when a girl like Heidi Montag can release her own fashion line without a nanosecond inside a design school. But I digress..

With that said, forgive me for choosing Natalie Portman as my current style profile but she's got a certain...je ne sais quoi. She is as approachable as she is unattainable. She seems like a girl that doesn't rely on her Harvard-educated laurels but can easily discuss The Doors, Hezbollah, or Medical Ethics in the same breath. It should therefore come as no surprise that her fashion sense also has a wholly original vibe. Besides being dangerously gorgeous, she has this unique gift of creating looks that divulge into a heady mix of downtown cool and uptown class (a feat that is always my personal sartorial goal). Stunning white Givenchy one day and vintage t-shirt, jeans and a buttery soft leather jacket the next -- this epitomizes all that she is. Here are a few of my favorite looks.
